MX8000 Paper Moisture Analyzer

The Moistrex MX8000 Portable At-Line Paper Moisture Analyzer provides paper and board makers, paper converters and printers with a fast, accurate paper moisture content measurement of a wide variety of papers, either at-line or in the QC laboratory.

Its moisture measurement range of 1-15% makes it ideal for moisture testing finished papers and boards or measuring moisture at critical stages in paper converting such as pre-lamination of pressure sensitive adhesive materials or following re-moisturising, or during the printing process.

The Moistrex MX8000 is very easy to use: simply place a sheet of paper in the waveguide, select the paper type and type in the basis weight, close the lid, and an accurate result is displayed within a few seconds.

MX8000 Paper Moisture Analyzer  is available in two configurations, depending on the basis weight of the paper or board:

  • MX8000-T80 for lighter papers (30-400 gsm )
  • MX8000-T20 for heavier papers and board (150-1200 gsm)

Features:

  • 1-15% moisture range for paper and board between 30-1200 gsm
  • Ideal for use in ISO9000 quality procedures
  • Supplied pre-calibrated for a wide range of common paper types
  • Calibration is unaffected by color, surface finish, sizing, conductive salts or fibre length
  • Measurement time <10 seconds
  • Multi-lingual interface

iLD Sensors: The Next Generation

09 May 2017 / Comments Off / in Bakery Food, Ceramic, Feed & AquaFeed, Food & Baby Food, Pharmaceutical, Washing Detergents, Wood-Paper-Tabacco/by Luca

Learning and Soft Computing: a new generation of mOisTracker® sensors is currently taking the world by storm.

Support vector machines (SVM) and neural networks (NN) are the mathematical structures, or models, that underlie learning, while fuzzy logic systems (FLS) enable us to embed structured human knowledge into workable algorithms. We assumes that it is not only useful, but necessary, to treat SVM, NN, and FLS as parts of the industrial production.

This approach enables to develop SVM, NN, and FLS in addition to understanding of the automation industrial process.

Given this, the new class of intelligent sensors should be reaching higher lot sizes much faster than the other sensors did.  Such savings are even part of the figures sales people are expected to reach today. The advantage of the iLD intelligent sensors is absolute.

This helps make the operability of the new our sensing solutions considerably less complicated, and reduces the engineering expense for both users and manufacturers, saving both parties money and time.

When looking at all the challenges that Pellet plant operators are tasked with, moisture control is one of the biggest. In fact, sensing moisture in wood pellets is one of the most important steps, especially after manufacture when pellets are stored.

Those who are proactive in taking steps to monitor moisture in wood pellets understand that they can save money and avoid packaging product that is low in quality or wet. Measuring moisture in wood pellets can also help save energy wasted in over-drying

The TeraSense solution is composed of the Sub-THz source and TeraFAST camera (trasmissione images  @ 100 GHz). Terahertz Screening as a Safe and Cost-Saving Alternative to X-Rays in Ceramic Tiles Industry

Moisture Content in Paper Converting & Coat Weight Measurements

06 Feb 2017 / Comments Off / in Wood-Paper-Tabacco/by Luca

Paper moisture measurements are critical throughout most stages of the paper making and converting process as manufacturers are constantly adjusting moisture to maintain the quality of their product. Additionally, online measurements of coating thickness are very important on webs during the manufacturing process allowing users to eliminate waste, reduce energy usage and produce quality products within specification 100% of the time.

Moisture in paper plays an important role in the printing and converting process as it can vary from 1-12% depending on the relative humidity and type of pulp and chemicals used. It is essential to control the moisture content of paper and keep it stable during the converting process as poor moisture control can have a negative effect resulting in curl, poor stability and out of specification product.

Types of coating applications:

Packaging Pressure
Sensitive Paper
Textiles Film
Substrates
Corrugated Copy
Piper Fiberglass
Webs
Water Soluble Films
Remoisturizing
Wax Coating Water / Solvent
Based Glue

Terahertz Technology in the OSB Manufacturing Process

08 Dec 2016 / Comments Off / in Wood-Paper-Tabacco/by Luca

Proof-of-concept equipment is under development to tackle the problem of measuring fiber orientation and density on the OSB mat before the press, which is expected to produce significant cost savings to the average OSB plant.

The production of OSB (Oriented Strand Board) involves converting a log into dried wafers, or “flakes”.  Flakes  are aligned on a forming line to generate a mat, which is pressed at high temperature with adhesives and pressure to form the boards themselves.

The structural strength properties are derived from the overall density of the board (the amount of flake used) and the orientation of the flakes in the two directions.

Technologies have been developed to measure density, including X-Ray and mechanical measurement techniques, but these measurement tools do not have the capability to measure the fibre orientation (or direction of the strands).

New and powerful Terahertz technology is expected to play an important role in sensing and imaging within the forest products industry as a result of its inherent safety, the transparency of wood at these frequencies, the resolution that is possible with the technology, and its sensitivity to internal fibre structure.

While there are many applications in the industry that could ultimately benefit from these capabilities, the OSB industry applications are the first target of research efforts presently under way.
